The opening of the Walks

2007 News.
Since the opening the walks have proved a great success and are used on a daily basis by locals and visitors alike. For many the Lough an Leagh has become a favourite place to get some exercise, walk the dogs and enjoy the fantastic scenery.
As always we ask people to be vigilant, report any illegal dumping or abuse of the environment. Enjoy the Lough an Leagh and preserve it for the future.
North South Interconnector.
A recent meeting of the Lough an Leagh Environmental Group discussed the erection of a 400KV link from Tyrone to Cavan, the cables will cross the countryside east of the Lough an Leagh to a Sub-station which will be located in the area. Maps showing the cable routes and the proposed area for the location of the substation are available on the Eirgrid website. The meeting expressed concern regarding the environmental and visual impact of the project on the surrounding area, concerns regarding health risks for people in the vicinity of the power lines and the sub-station were also voiced. Eirgrid are to arrange an information meeting in early November, details will be posted here.
