The main activity of the fair is a horse fair. Trading takes place at the crossroads and deals are traditionally agreed win a ‘slap on the hands’. Through it’s popularity the fair has increased in size over the years with buyers and sellers coming from all over Ireland to trade.
The fair has been regarded for a long time as a meeting place for people near and far and for holiday makers who come to visit to enjoy and experience the traditions of the fair and see the many stall holders selling their wares.
Close to the crossroad at the ‘Rock of Muff’, visitors can also dance to a traditional band where competitions and prizes are awarded for the best dancers and singers. Also, at the ‘Rock of Muff’ a skittles competition is held each year and is taken seriously with competitors often practicing for weeks in advance. ‘Pitch and Toss’ gambling is another tradition that has continued down through the years.
